While in Mexico, I stayed at a lovely little hostel run by a Spanish-German couple in San Cristòbal de las Casas called El Hostalito. Here, they also rent bicycles and many bycicle-enthousiasts meet here. One of them told me about warmshowers.org, a website that’s a lot like Couchsurfing.org, just especially for cyclists.

What this means, is that cyclists from around the world have a database of fellow cyclo-fans who are happy to provide a room, a bed or a couch for them to crash on for a short while. All it takes is to sign up and then start roaming your options.

I can personally recommend member Joaquin, owner of El Hostalito, who wil give cyclists get a special rate staying at the hostel with the first night being free! Only one of many reasons to come to San Cristobal if you’re interested in bike-touring Mexico.

With 11.000 members in total, chances are good that warmshowers.org can help you find the right host for you in the places you’re most interested in.

I’ve always been intrigued with the idea of touring the world on a bike and I do love cycling, I just never got around to doing a whole trip just on my bike. Maybe you remember posts by Kathrine or Ina about traveling by bike and maybe you’ve also been toying with the idea of doing a bicycle trip because it’s fun, cheap and flexible. If so, give warmshowers.org a try and let us know how it worked out for you.

If there are any other good, relevant websites for cyclists that you like, please share them with us, we’re always interested.

Happy traveling,
