Ho Ho Ho! Congrats Erielle, for winning yesterday’s prize, a polawalk through Vienna, a polaroid camera and a messenger bag with an awesome map-print!
We’re honing in fast to the big day, so we’re bringing you yet another giveaway! The festive period is so fun with plenty of food and drink to be had, presents to give, family to visit and general merriment filling up your days. So much fun… but hands up who’s pretty exhausted by the end of it? I know I am, and the beginning of the new year is predominantly time for some serious recovery. And what could be better than heading out into the beautiful Bavarian countryside for some serious rest and recuperation?
Today, we’re offering the ultimate prize for those who need to unwind after the Christmas chaos. We’ve teamed up with Green Pearls, where you can find incredibly unique places to stay, and they have offered one of our travelettes community a two night getaway for two people in Haidl-Madl, Germany. Haidl-Madl is nestled in the stunning Lower Bavaria in southeastern Germany and is a serene farmstead that offers countryside explorations and historic accommodation.
Haidl-Madl is a property that is about 300 years old and has been lovingly restored to include modern architecture within the old walls. It was a grand farm house back in the 17th Century and only stopped being a farm about 20 years ago. In 1970, they began to allow visitors to stay to enjoy this serene lifestyle and now three parts of the house have been reconstructed into quaint apartments. One of these unique apartments include Alte Liebe, which is where you could be checking into! It’s designed beautifully and includes a living and dining room, with a sofa and kitchenette.
When it was restored, much attention was paid to ensure that the historical nature of the building was preserved, yet also supplements with contemporary ecological designs and high-quality designer furniture. You’ll have views over the endless forests to Bohemia and you can experience peace in nature to the max. If you love a hike, then you’ll love the Bavarian Forest. Explore the marshes, forests, national parks and the mountains. See what you can get up to in this region and plan a getaway of relaxation and peace!
If you choose to go in summer, you can explore the large original garden, the 6 hectares of land and relax on hammocks; or go in the winter where you can go cross-country skiing on the many trails. There’s a nearby ski lift which you can also use in the cold months – get stuck into this winter wonderland! Reconnecting with nature is a top priority for those who can sometimes get too weighed down by routine (or festive shenanigans), so take a break in one of the most beautiful places in the world.
If you win today’s prize, not only will you be able to bring your partner in crime for two nights, but you will also get breakfast as well. A breakfast bag of groceries and fresh bread will be brought over, and sometimes the hostess can cook dinner for you on request. At Haidl-Madl, they have a high appreciation for regional and seasonal food – they grow plenty of veggies in their garden and support organic farming on their land. Haidl-Madl is a lifestyle of green-thinking and luxurious simplicity.

I need a getaway here in the New Year because 2015 has been one of the busiest and most exhausting years of my life. We moved across the world from San Diego to Sicily, our family was a part for 4 months, we found out we were expecting baby #3, I got a new job and now we're just now feeling settled in here in our new place. A couple days of rest and relaxation with my husband sounds perfect right about now.
Wow that would just be the perfect getaway after the christmas days!
xx

Looks so peaceful and relaxing! I'll be over in Europe for most of the year in 2016, but I've never been to Germany! This would be a great 'excuse' to go. ;)
This would be my dream trip because I've been desperately learning German! also, Christmas 2015 is going to probably be my busiest yet - my family are all together in our home country for the first time in six years, and somehow I said it should be at my house! As much as I love my parents, brother and sister, I can see I'll be needing some serious relaxation come 2016. This would be heaven xxx
This would be a perfect early spring trip! I love Bavaria, and I would love to win!
I could definitely need some rest after New Year, and this getaway sounds just perfect. The last twelve months were by far the most exhausting ones I have ever had. I never thought working in a real job could be so much harder than studying, but so far, my personal experience, tells me something different. So, I would love to just chill out, read a book, watch the beautiful and calm landscape and go for some nice walks.
And I would love to take my sister with me who is currently studying for her final exam in medicine and could definitely need some rest afterwards. So why not spend some hyggelig days together?!
J'ai besoin de prendre des forces avant de reprendre mon travail saisonnier d'avril à octobre.
Ce serait parfait dans ce cadre enchanteur!
This place looks like heaven.
A nice and calm adventure in Haidl-Madl would be a good remedy to cure my acute wanderlust and need to discover new places!
For the holidays, I'll be visiting with the boyfriend some friends in Köln whom we met in Colombia, then back to France to Brittany to spend Christmas with his family, then we'll be heading to the region of Jura in France for New Year's at another friend's place.
The positive side if that since we are not holding any festivity at our place near Paris, we won't have to prepare, cook or clean as much. The downside is that we'll be busing, training, Couchsurfing and carpooling all over the place.
So right now, Haidl-Madl seems sehr schönnnnnnnn!!!
YeS!! As I heard it is a very nice area and I have always wanted to stay in a lovely and natural place like this! I would be more than happy to win this! :-)
Next year my boyfriend will come to Germany to visit me. We will meet again after 9 months! Long distance relationships aren't easy and to have a time in such a nice place after so much time would be an amazing experience. Not only for his first time in Germany but also for our relationship :)
I need a getaway after Christmas because as wonderful it is to spend plenty of time with the family, 3 days in a row with ridiculous amounts of food, boardgames and gift unwrapping is enough. Berlin and its harsh cold winters keep tearing one down, too. Bavaria is so different from the rest of Germany in many ways, but it does take your breath away nature-wise with its mountains, lakes, forests, castles... Haidl-Madl quintessentially screams "Gemütlichkeit" and how could I resist a place whose rooms are called Alte Liebe? It sounds wonderful.
I don't know why, but the year gets more and more complicated by the end. You're so right when you say we'll all need some rest after Christmas. I am in the difficult position of organizing Christmas with two families (my mom's and dad's) and that's not easy! My boyfriend doesn't really celebrate Christmas and will be working next week. He started his tattoo shop one year ago and we didn't really take a break together in 2015. It would be the best Christmas present ever if I won this trip in the Bavarian country side, my sweet boyfriend and I could finally have a weekend away together after this busy year and a complicated Christmas. The photos of this beautiful hotel make me think of the Sissi's movies I love so much! And my boyfriend loves to hike, it would be perfect for us. Finger crossed and thank you sooooo much for this opportunity.

And I forgot to say that it's my name day today! best coincidence :) !
Thank you again Travelettes !
My parents anniversary is tomorrow and this would make a perfect gift for them. I'd live to go but I have to work every day until the 5th
...to spend some time in the quiet mountains of Austria to focus again on everything that 2016 will bring up for me...
Omg! Can't think of a better way to finally get to see my soldier again and snuggle up with him! I'm living in Paris since August and he was just restationed with the US Army, in November, to Vilseck (near Munich). Wasn't able to see him last weekend like originally planned. What better way to explore Germany than to surprise my honey with a getaway?? :)
Wasn't sure I put in the correct email on original comment but this reply should have it. Fingers super crossed on this giveaway
Wooow, what a great giveaway; I am simply in love with Lower Bavaria; cannot described in any way else
I love the simplicity of this place!
I have only been to Berlin and would love to explore more parts of Germany! What a great reason to go see Lower Bavaria!
Having had a stressful year with elderly parents would be great to get away for a break with my husband to a beautiful place in Germany
Let me be your haidl madl
i would love to getaway in the new year and relax at Haidl-Madl with my best friend!!*-*
I'm still looking for somewhere to celebrate my 1st wedding anniversary with my husband in January, and this would be so perfect! We are both exhausted from life in Frankfurt (it's nothing like my home, Cape Town!), so a relaxing and romantic weekend away would be perfect :-)
Wow, great hotel!
I would love to win, not just for me, but for my boyfriend who is really busy at the moment with school, work, ... He reslly deserves to have a short vacation.
It would be great to win this price!
(By the way, I just read your book, it's great!!)
Jessica
I need an excuse to finally get to Germany!
Ahh... the German countryside! Sehr schön! A relaxing weekend will be the perfect getaway from the stressful monotony we live in! And it would be a great occasion to explore a bit more from this beautiful country.
Gosh this little charming home looks so inviting and refreshing! I'd love to have a getaway after the New Year. Christmas is the time of year people usually wind down with work, well it's when we start to ramp up. We hit the "go" button on January 4th and it'll be three months of non-stop craziness so after all that I will definitely be looking forward to a break! My brother is studying abroad in Germany next summer, I've never been but it's on the top of my list. I'd love this, looks amazing!!
I think I can truly say that I am in the middle of one of the most intellectually challenging periods of my life, but the end is sort of in sight [somewhere in the middle of 2016], and a break to think about absolutely nothing would be amazing
I would love to win this vacation! I have never been to Germany but I'm planning to go next year and this would be such a dream place to stay!
I'm in lawschool and 2016 is gonna be the year that really counts, so to get away from all that and just relax and be in a beautiful and serene environment would be incredible! The christmas calendar this year really knocks it out of the ballpark!
This year has been epic for traveling and trying new things, but I am definitely overdue for a trip to just relax. I think it would be an incredible way to start the new year fresh for something bigger and better! Also a reason to visit Germany for my first time :D
I love Bavaria and this amazing place would be perfect to relax after my university exams and get ready for my last semester :)
No use summing up the hectic year I had - I need a getaway to set my priorities straight, squeeze in some day-dreaming and just be. Simple as that..
a getaway after an exhausting winter workwise would be great. plus bavaria would be fun to go to anyways. servus.
What a nice looking hotel ! I had a hard couplet of weeks and it is only getting worse after the holidays. As a PhD student I have to take and grade exams in january and i have a major research deadline so it would be nice to have something to look forward to. And i would bring my sister who had a real job working crazy hours ans had a bit of a health scare this morning. She realy deserves this and it would bring a nice end to a not so nice day.
It's been a busy year in the sense of lots of working, moving house several times and no holidays so a trip to the Bavarian countryside would be such a rewarding way to see in the new year!
It would be so amazing to win this getaway. I'd love the opportunity to visit Lower Bavaria. Although it would be amazing to visit this hotel all year round, I'd love to go there in the fall. Going on a hike with my husband to see the changing leaves would be so special. Fall is my favorite season, and I'd love to spend a portion of it outside of the city that I call home. If we were able to go in the fall, it would be the perfect opportunity to relax before the crazy business of the holidays. It would remind us to think about what really matters and give us the ability to travel to a new part of the world together!
My boyfriend and I finally moved in together after having a long-distance relationship (USA - Germany) for 2 years. We had a couple stressful months with combining our two lives in one place (and some other stuff to deal with). We could really need some time off of everything where we can just focus on us.gether.
