Christmas is a great time to finally get a hold of some of the most-wanted items we have dreamed about all year – even if it takes a few hints to family and friends. You seemed to really like our comprehensive Christmas gift list, but it can be quite hard to choose from so many options. Among our team it started a discussion of what we think are the best Christmas gifts for travellers, aka what WE would really love to have.
Maybe you know someone with similar desires, so I thought I put together another, very concrete wish list – all apply to at least one Travelette in the team, although I’m sure we’re not the only ones!
1. Wooden World Maps
Because a decorated home that allows to dream away can be the best solace when you are not travelling. Check out the above map art here and this smaller alternative here.
2. Camera Straps
Because we want to recognise our camera at first glance and make it look pretty. This strap here can be personalised with your name!
3. Solid Shampoo Bars
Because nothing is more annoying than bulky shampoo bottles that are not allowed in carry-on luggage anyways. Solid Shampoo bars (or soap, body lotion, toothpaste tabs and perfume) are the ideal solution!
4. Scarf or Blanket?
Because we need to cuddle up with something on an overnight busride or lang-haul flight – this one is a scarf and a blanket if needed.
5. Hip Flasks
Because nights out can be expensive – especially on a RTW trip! This flask here shows that you are a devoted traveller. If you don’t need a flask for alcohol, but hot drinks, get a thermos instead!
6. Jewelry
Because we all want it, no matter in which shape it comes – maybe shapes like a US State, or European countries or even Africa?
7. Mobile Work Space
Because being a travel blogger is often done from home office – which sometimes means bed. Hooray for this “lap desk” and this laptop table!
8. Backpacks
Because you need a backpack to be backpacking in heels. And just like heels aren’t hiking boots, our backpack of choice is a little bit different as well!
9. Clever Notebooks
Because taking notes while travelling is vital to back-up every little detail for later – it also helps massively with travel writing. The more a notebook can do, the better – like this 2in1 Notebook – iPad cover combination from the beautiful JustWanderlustShop.
10. Art Prints
Because there are many walls to fill and these retro prints of our favourite cities are just too cool! Can you find your hometown or favourite city?
11. Travel Scarfs
Because storing your money and passport in an inconspicuous place, like a travel scarf, can protect from theft! Just don’t leave your scarf lying on the chair next to you…
12. Hoola Hoops
Because they are a first step towards being like Marawa the Amazing. Hoola Hoops are a great workout and make parties more fun – get a collapsible one for in the road!
13. Pocket Knives
Because they are the most handy tools to bring on a trip. No matter if you are camping, inter railing or relaxing on a lonely beach – a good pocket knife can also be used to open coconuts!
14. Camera Bags
Because they shouldn’t have to be black and boring. Camera bags come in all forms and shapes, like this one in leather or this vintage bag for a point-and-shoot. Or would you rather use your own bag? Get a padded insert!
15. Travel Towels
Because they can be used for so many different things – at the beach, as a sarong, for yoga and even as a proper bath towel! These towels are soft, they absorb a lot of water and dry super quickly.
I hope you find some more inspiration for gifts and wish lists here! I already wonder what will be under the tree this year?!
