I had high hopes for Zurich. After all I’d only ever come through the airport before, it was merely a transfer town to get to one of Switzerland’s outstanding ski resorts like Laax, Adelboden or Zermatt. This time around I decided to stay an extra 2 days before heading on to Gstaad, another reputable ski resort town I had not yet been to before. (More on Gstaad soon!)

I had a room booked at the Marriott Zurich, a choice I was mega excited about because after recently staying at the Marriott Park Lane in London and the Cotton House in Barcelona which is part of the Marriott Group, I knew Marriott knew a thing or two about providing outstanding service. After all they have built an impressive reputation over the years which they clearly aim to live up to every day.

Checking into a new hotel is not usually something I much like doing but here it was bliss. We were attended right away, my little guy got to pick a toy out of a box of small, colorful goodies for kids and after a quick signature we were told all about what was to become our favorite room for the next 2 days: the executive lounge.

The executive lounge is bit like the a swanky airline lounge you may know from airports around the world. Except that the lounge at the Marriott does not content itself with coffee and bad pastries. Here, guests are served hot breakfast, DELICIOUS dinner with 3 options as well as a fantastic afternoon delight. Think all you can eat chocolates, desserts, treats, coffees, sodas, juices and even wines. Add speedy wifi to that, a television and games for children and you have my idea of paradise. Well, close anyway. The executive lounges at the Marriott hotels may not be the only but definitely my favorite reason to sign up for the Marriott Rewards program. It’s free to sign up, you join over 50 million other members and the perks are endless. One being access to these wonderful lounges! Save yourself a buck and get with the program, I say!

The goodness of the Marriott Zurich does not stop there. I knew from past experience that food was something the Swiss do not take lightly, so sure enough, a visit to the Echo restaurant on the first floor was an experience in itself. Perfect lighting, beautiful decor with mountain vibes and a menu to die for. Needless to say I went straight for the fondue!

Everything was set up to be a perfect weekend in Zurich if it hadn’t been for a tiny detail: my sick toddler (imagine me saying this throwing my hands up in the air and making a face distorted with pain). Pool pumpkin Atlas woke up with a fever on our first morning here which meant we had to spend the entire weekend in. Lucky for us, the Marriott is just a stone’s throw away from the train station which we walked over to, just to find a pharmacy.

We came for the medicine, we stayed for the Christmas market! An indoor Christmas market was not something I had seen before but this one was just beautiful. Every shop was a marvel and I could have spent all day shopping gifts for my loved ones but of course we had to get back and put that baby to rest.

Zurich, you and I still have a bone to pick. A date to go on. A story to tell one another. Next time it will happen. Next time for real.
