Heading out for a weekend long festival with friends might sound like tons of fun, but not necessarily rest and relaxation. In the same way, a week-long retreat probably conjures up images of meditation and massages, but maybe not loads of fun and unforgettable memories.

Until now.

What if I told you there’s a way to enjoy both the invigorating experience of a festival and the peaceful solitude of a retreat? Well now you can do both things simultaneously with Restival.

What and why?

The lovechild of a retreat and a festival, Restival bridges the gap between dancing at celebratory festivals and sitting in peaceful silence, with the goal of helping you reconnect with yourself, with others and with nature. Created by an ex-festival producer who learned to mediate on the banks of Rishikesh, travels with Restival are off-the-grid, hosted in the deepest of nature where indigenous tribes live. These excursions allow people to totally disconnect from technology, while resting in comfort with nature and with people of the land.

Organisers of Restival aim to spread light in a world that seems unstable and combat negativity with positivity by learning from the wisdom and ways of indigenous tribes.

These adventures offer art and writing classes (amongst others), yoga and mediation, music and dancing and so much more – providing the opportunity to write, recalibrate all the while allowing you to enjoy the charm of dancing around campfire to the beat of a drum. But with no prescribed agenda, Restival invites participants to do as much or as little as they like. Fancy practicing yoga at sunrise? No prob. Prefer sleeping late into the morning and attending workshops later in the afternoon? Done.

Restival is all about you-time and revitalising your inner peace, passions… or whatever it is inside you that might get lost in the day-to-day.

When and where?

Restival events are ongoing throughout the year in different parts of the world. There is an upcoming Restival in the U.S. in Arizona this September where participants will be welcomed into a Navajo community and catch a privileged and rare glimpse into ancient traditions including Navajo sweat lodges, storytelling, ceremonies, mask making and more. Attendees will also enjoy a digital detox in an Arizona luxury desert camp. Restivals are also organised in Swedish Lapland and Morocco.

The lodging is modelled after the indigenous culture of the area (think: small Berber villages or authentic Navajo teepees). Accommodations are luxurious and comfortable, allowing you to get the most out of the experience. Food is included and is a freshly prepared array of wholesome options that cater to all tastes. Meals are often enjoyed in a traditional way and offer a central connection area so you can get to know your fellow Restival-goers.

Join Travelettes at upcoming Restival in Morocco!

We here at Travelettes are thrilled to be joining the upcoming Moroccan adventure in November. Join us in the Sahara Desert as we meet and learn from the Berber Nomads. Starting in Marrakech, this Restival will take us (and you?) to the stunning Atlas Mountains, ancient villages, and journeys of bread making, weaving, astronomy, dancing and more. We look forward to completely unwinding in the magic of the Sahara Desert. Just thinking about it makes me feel more rejuvenated.
