Another day at the Caribbean Sea came to an end. Freshly showered I positioned myself in one of the comfortable hammocks of our hostel among the many palm trees.

A fresh breeze of wind was blowing, perfectly complementing the weather after a very hot day at the beach. It didn´t take long until I fell asleep. When I woke up, it was through the sweet melody of a guitar. I looked around and saw two young men playing songs together. The music was almost as captivating as their good looks and my attention was glued onto them until they finished playing.

At 11 pm, our hostel’s beach bar opened and invited people to an open stage where musicians could perform. I decided to resist the offer of 2 for 1 cocktails to avoid kissing a douchebag again like I did the first night here when that boy later turned out to be the most boring person on the planet, following me everywhere for the next two days, despite serious efforts to ignore him.

Call it luck, that somehow my friend Julie and I ended up in a conversation with the two handsome musicians I had watched earlier. It turned out that they were not only skilled musicians, but college graduates with bags full of wit and charm. One of them was from Spain and the other one from the States, but both had spent most of their lives in the US, where they met and started playing music together. I could not help but feel drawn to the Spanish guy from the start. I wondered how any girl could possibly resist these two young men: attractive, funny, down to earth and so talented. The only answer I could come up with was that probably no one could resist them, I sure was completely smitten.

When Diego, that was his name, kissed me, he completely won me over and I belonged to him for that night. At 3am, after the music stopped playing, we decided to go swimming in the sea. I had never been night-swimming before and was breathlessly taken with the beauty of the night. On the other side of the shore we could see the flashing, colorful lights of Cancun and it didn´t take long until the clouds moved and stars appeared, making this moment one of the most magical in my life.

Love

That moment, in that place, with that boy, could have lasted forever. Everything was perfect and I was with one of the most fascinating guys I’ve ever met- the way he touched me, how he kissed me, his choice of words made that night unforgettable.

We stayed in the water for over an hour before taking a shower and going to bed, where I fell asleep in his arms as if I had done nothing else for years.

I only had an hour of sleep before I had to get up and leave the island to go off to new adventures. But I didn’t leave empty-handed – the memories of that one perfect night will forever be a part of me….
