Berlin is known for its wild parties and vibrant young scene, and with new clubs popping up every day, and legendary clubs such as Berghain and Kater Holzig – it is no wonder it is one of the prime destinations for hedonistic holidays. One of the many yearly party-highlights is the street festival MyFest in the district of Kreuzberg, celebrated every 1st of May since 2003. Together with ten thousands of people, you can dance the day away while sipping on your ice-cold caipirinha to the beats of Berlin.

Labour day used to be a day of violent riots, where you should lock your door and stay inside if you weren’t up to any trouble, but this has changed with MyFest (although there are normally some clashes between police and demonstrants after dark). The street festival is a multicultural and culinary feast of dimensions – and the whole Oranienstraße (the “main street” of Kreuzberg) and area around turn into one big open air.

As Kreuzberg is a place where cultures meet, the food stalls sell food ranging from freshly grilled chicken to turkish delights to vegan burgers. Something for all tastes, and trust me, you will need it after all those calories you’re burning while dancing in the sun.

So next year, put on your best dancing shoes and come to Kreuzberg the 1st of May! In the meantime, you can enjoy some all day dancing at The Carnival of Cultures, Fête de la Musique and Christopher Street Day on the streets of Berlin.
