New Year’s Eve – the one night of the year that we repeatedly have too high expectations for. Awaiting a kiss from Mr. Handsome at 12 o’clock sharp while you’re at the perfect party with your girlfriends, sipping bubbly and dressed to the nines? It may be a long shot, but one you’re especially likely to succeed at if you’re in one of the world’s inofficial “New Year’s Eve capitals”: Paris, London or New York.

If you’re still unsure where to ring in the new year with a bang, we’ve got some last-minute tips for you:

Shabba Dabba Da NYE Special

Leave the guilty conscience at home and prepare for a night of decadence and indecency at the Avalon Bar. At Shabba Dabba Da, anything goes. And we really mean anything. This club night is run by London’s most eccentric dresser, Daniel Lismore, and regularely attracts free-spirited partygoes, young and old alike. Get your fancy dress on and  hit the electro dancefloor – or check out the “glitteringly debauched VIP room complete with jacuzzis and a very special Sauna Disco”.  What more could you want on New Year’s?

The Nest New Year’s Eve

TimeOut magazine described this club as an “intimate basement New York sleaze-styled club”. Come here if you want to have a good night out with your friends, dance to cutting-edge electronic music and not spend ridiculous amounts of money for a drink.

The Nest (formerly Barden’s Boudoir), 36-44 Stoke Newington Road. Tickets £15-£20 in advance// £25 on the door if available. Start 21:00h. More information here.

social club

Social Club

The french blog Die Nacht is definitely the first place to look if you want to know what parties are hot in Paris at the moment. Among the recommendations for Friday night is Paris Social Club, currently a top adress for it-girls and other party people that want to celebrate in style without compromising the excessiveness.

142 Rue Montmartre. Tickets 20€ in advance// 25€ on the door. Get there early or you will have to queue for hours in the cold!

One More at Rex Club

The self-acclaimed Parisian alternative to legendary European clubbing institutions like Fabrics in London or Berlin’s very own Berghain, Rex Club is one of those places you just have to be at in order to understand what they’re all about. Come here if you plan on having an extraordinary night to remember (or not – depending on the amount of bubbly you intend to ingest).

Rex Club, 5 Boulevard Poissonnière. Tickets 25€. Sta rt 23:00h. More info & dj lineup here.

Night of Joy

If it’s not the music, or the people, free booze is always a good reason for going to a party. Why not avoid spending your hard-earned cash on ticket and drink prices by heading out to the New Year’s Eve party at Night of Joy? There is absolutely no entrance fee and drinks are sponsored by Jim Beam, Sauza and Absolut between 10:30 and 11:30. This place offers plenty of comfortable seating in a cozy environment, and it also has a 24-hour license fee… So if you like it there, feel free to stay all night (and day!).

Night of Joy, 667 Lorimer Street/Meeker (Williamsburg).

Just Blaze at Santo’s Party House

There are few places in NYC that are currently being hyped as much as Santo’s Party House. And it wouldn’t be New Year’s in NYC without a party at Santo’s – so forget all about Carson Daly and the ball drop at Times Square. Ticket prices are a little steep before midnight 40$,  but the fun you will have should be well worth your money. Expect a funky mix of oldschool hip hop, soul, house and Carribean music.

Santo’s Party House, 96 Lafayette Street. Tickets 40$ before midnight// 25$ afterwards. Starts at 21:00h. More info here.

Regardless of where you end up – the girls at Travelettes wish you a happy new year! See you in 2011!
