With the end of summer looming in the UK, the only way we Travelettes could help ease the blues is by providing the fantastic opportunity to be our guest Travelettes reporter for the ultimate cool festival: Bestival! We ran a competition for one lucky reader to score press passes and we had a number of excellent applications for this, making it a toughie to figure out who could cover this event and do it justice… but of course, we managed to pick one and this lady really stood out from the rest!

We asked for applicants to provide why they think they should get the opportunity to get to go, and this was Jo Fraser’s winning answer:

Five reasons to choose me as the next Bestival reporter.

1. I once had to wipe the lead singer of the band Foals’s sweat off my face because he full-on body slammed me at a concert one time. It was a pretty intimate moment so he’s probably expecting me to be there.

2. I am pretty much a pro at the whole camping thing. Did it in the Himalayas in January and again in Greece last month. Pack some face-wipes and some dry-shampoo and you’re set.

3. I live for days where it is acceptable to wear a floral wreath in your hair.

4. I really want to use the sentence “ I really need a Restival after Bestival” at some point in my life.

5. I can say with certainty that I have never been to a gig and not been in the very front row. I am that enthusiastic about live music.

Jo grew up with one foot in Africa and the other in Australia. After completing a degree in Geography, she made her debut into the world of travel writing with her humble blog Dirty Paws. When not hunched over her computer, she has been known to start riots in Madagascar, elbow her way to the front of folk concerts and run from avalanches in Nepal, all whilst taking the time to cuddle every cat she sees. Currently in the eighth month of her trip around the world, Jo dreams of one day working for the National Geographic, having a neatly planted vegetable garden and owning a pug called Toots.

You can find her on twitter and Instagram too.

Hugging cats and dreaming of pugs? This is definitely our kind of gal! But of course, we couldn’t let it be too easy for her, so we are wanting  suggestions of five small challenges for her to undertake during her Bestival time. We’re thinking along the lines of “Hug five strangers & photo-document it for proof”, “Snap the top four fancy dress outfits”, “Hunt for the best festival food”, “Storm the stage” (OK, maybe not that one, as we don’t want her to be kicked out!) – you get the jist. But we want YOU, our lovely readers, to come up with some killer challenges to help make Jo’s experience one to remember.

Please comment below or shoot us a comment on Facebook on what you want to see Jo do for us (please keep it legal and safe… relatively safe), and in return, Jo will provide some ace coverage on everything that goes down during Bestival.

Jo, you’re definitely going to need a Restival after this Bestival!

Sophie Saint was one of the original travelettes, from 2009 – 2017. After fleeing the UK with ink barely dry on her graduation certificate, she traversed the world with a backpack and spent a few years living in Melbourne – one of her favourite cities in the world.

She finally returned to the UK after a few years where she now whiles time away zipping off for European escapes, crocheting and daydreaming of owning her own hostel somewhere hot to live out eternal summers. See what she’s up to over on her blog saintsonaplane.com and instagram: @saintsonaplane
