Over the past few years, British photographer Jasper James has been working on his series “City Silhouettes“, a project I came across via my tumblr dashboard almost year ago, when there were only a few pictures to see. In the still ongoing project he creates a symbiosis between the capital city of China, Beijing and its citizens. By photographing reflections on glass, the city is seen through the silhouette of the viewer, capturing a range of emotions.

Sometime in 2008, the number of people living in urban areas outnumbered those living in rural areas for the first time in history. I thought it would be interesting to shoot portraits of these city dwellers combined with the image of a cityscape.” Jasper says about his work.

I love all kinds of double exposure or reflection photography, because they manage not only to show two pictures in one but also create a certain emotion in between those images, something Jasper is extraordinarily good at in his series. Enjoy!
