Us travelettes are strong independent female travellers who know what we want and have a lot of fun trying to get it. That means that we have our heads screwed on when it comes to picking our travel destinations and how we go about our travels. It might be the “uncool” thing to talk about but hey, safety and security when you are travelling abroad is not something to joke about. Katja has already written about theft (here and here) and being wise on your travels but when I stumbled upon this image via Code for Something I wanted to share it with you gals.

The Global Peace Index (GPI) – this year 149 nations were ranked according to their peacefulness and the results are shown below in that groovy image. Basically the larger the county the more peaceful it is.

I’m not saying that you should avoid countries where you might encounter potential problems but I think it’s important to consider lots of different factors when planning a trip, especially if you want to spend an extended period of time in one place. No one wants to find themselves in the middle of a war zone or a potential life-threatening situation so make sure you do your research and find out the risks before you travel!

If you want to read more about the GPI check out the Vision of Humanity website. Also, the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the US government both have really great websites with up to date information an advice relating to political conflicts, environmental disasters and other things that might affect your travels abroad. Go on, admit it, being prepared is sexy and this way you can keep your heels on!
