When my friend Corinne asked me to ride my bike through downtown San Francisco naked in exchange for two pairs of shoes and to promote breast cancer awareness, I said “Free shoes, I’m in!”

But this morning when it came down to it, I started to get a bit cagey. I was hungover, my bed was comfortable, and the thought of riding around the city practically naked just seemed like the the last thing I wanted to do. But I had promised, and so I dragged myself out of bed, chased down some aspirin with a power shake, and rode downtown to Chrome, where I, my little dog Goji, three friends, and twelve strangers put on some cute new pink shoes, took off most of our other clothes, and went on a sunny bike ride around the city.

Shoes for Boobs was staged in San Francisco, Chicago, and New York partially by Chrome Industries, an awesome local bike gear company, their messenger bags are a staple in the trendy street bike world.  Keep A Breast was the other partner of this madness, they are an international foundation dedicated to raising breast cancer awareness to young people through various art, music, and cultural events. Pink is the color for breast cancer awareness, and since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Chrome is selling their super cute Pink Kursks for the discounted price of $40, and donating half of that to Keep A Breast.

I’m really happy with my new pair of shoes, but I had such a fun time riding around and stopping traffic! I liked making people stop their routine and think about something important. Breast cancer is a serious problem among women of all ages. Monthly self-breast exams ladies! Early prevention and education are the easiest ways to prevent this life threatening disease from happening to you or someone you love.

I rode for the shoes… and the boobs! And actually, when you think about it, shoes and boobs aren’t that different. They both come in pairs. They both come in all different shapes, colors, and sizes. And they are the greatest accessories ever. Take good care of them so they last a long time.
