Retro motel glamour
I sometimes believe I was born & raised in the wrong decade. Although the 90′s brought me great joy (thanks mainly to the Spice Girls) I often wish I could have been a Travelette from another time, specifically the 1960′s or early 1970′s. So yes it was before the days of the cheap flights, hair straighteners and travel blogging, but there was something so glamorous and mysterious about the Pam Am girl…
When stumbling around on flickr for some retro glamour inspiration I was thrilled to come across the following collection of vintage images of hotels & motels from all over the United States. With almost 4000 images to choose from it was hard to narrow down my favourites but here they are – don’t they just made you want to don a pair of platforms, a bandeau high-waisted bikini and bathe in retro glamour!

Very cool! the 60s and 70s would have been my ultimate time to travel too!
Hmmm, when i had to apple pick in Australia, i had to stay in a motel. there were mice and crazy locals, and my kitchen was a kettle and a microwave. if only i got to stay in one of these!
The ’60s was great time to travel. Can say that with confidence, because that was my decade of backpacking. One small correction, there _were_ cheap flights then: last-minute deals, charter flights and weird routes with free over-night stays paid for by the airlines. One thing is certain, the flights themselves were much more pleasant.
One travels when one can, though. So glad to see that other women are still hitting the roads.
