Mexico City – first impressions
Mexico – this country has been on my to-do list for a few years now, so I am more than happy to be here now and have a whole 6 weeks to dive into the culture and make the most of my stay.
My itinerary so far looks like this:
first few days – move into apartment in Condesa (bohemian part of Mexico City), meet old and new friends, explore the city
–> flight to Cancun, stay there one night, then on to Playa del Carmen and Tulum for Caribbean feels and funs and to celebrate my birthday tomorrow with cocktails by the beach
–> flight back to Mexico City, stay here 2 days then leave on an 8-day adventure with Contiki Travels who have kindly invited me on my first ever group trip. That will take me to Ixtapa, Morelia and Acapulco, among other destinations.
–> return to Mexico City for about a week to work on various fashion projects and get deeper into the city’s scene.
–> flight to La Paz with return from Los Cabos before finishing off my last days in Mexico City.
–> return to Berlin on March 30th.
How much of this itinerary is subject to change is left to be scene, but fact is that i’m 5 hours away from boarding a flight to the Caribbean and i am not bringing a computer. Expect to see images of beach goodness in a week from now.
For now I am leaving you with a few photos I’ve been taking during my first 3 days in Mexico City.
If you have any tips and must-see recommendations for me to see and do while in Mexico, don’t hesitate to tell me!

Love the first photo, Katja.
[...] wir gerade beim Thema Mexiko sind: Katja hat auf Travelettes ein paar wunderbare Fotos aus Mexico City. Besonders angetan hat es mir dabei [...]
*sigh* another place to add to my growing list of destinations…
Hi Katja,
First of all, I love your pictures!
I am from Mexico City and I have lived here all my life, and I have to recommend to you a few places.
First of all, dont miss out on Coyoacan, a great neighborhood and full of life on weekends
Also, el Bazar del Sábado, a “market” in the pedregal (a beautiful part of the city too) on saturdays that I love, since I used to go very often when I was little. Don´t forget to visit xochimilco too, so you can appreciate very typical mexican folklore.
And one last recommendation, visit San Cristobal de las Casas in Chiapas. This is my favorite town, in my favorite state. Something you cannot miss.
I wish you the best in your travels,
Mercedes
