Link Love: yoga, thieves, and a trip to the Amazon
Hello Travelettes! It’s time to share with you some of my favorite links at the moment! They are all about things that have recently inspired me, got me off the couch and out into the world, or the kitchen, or the gym and hopefully they will interest you too!
As some of you may know, San Francisco is my home as of this moment and, among other things, my city has a slight obsession with yoga (I’m heading out to heated power vinyassa as soon as I finish this article). Everyone has their favorite form of yoga, whether they prefer hardcore heated Bikram to a gentle restorative class. But I feel most everyone would agree that yoga is for individual growth, both inside and out, and is not a competition. Until now… The New York Times recently ran an article about the National Yoga Asana Championship. And apparently its the ninth one! What is yoga’s purpose and does it belittle its essence by turning into a competition? I found Rachel Anne Scott’s blog and feel she puts a good spin on this issue.
Among other things that make me feel good… yoga, kittens, sunshine, and… chocolate! I’m a foodie and have a culinary degree, and you can count on having a fun food link most every, if not every, Linklove post. Here’s mine this week: Dark Chocolate Mousse with Chili Pepper. I don’t even need to go into any more detail. Just the title is making me drool. Yum yum yum! And its a super easy recipe.
Just like my chocolate, I love good smooth and yummy travel writing, and when I found this piece entitled How Much Can You Steal in 30 Seconds by Aimee Hansen, I had to share it. She writes simply, eloquently, and honestly about getting mugged in Brazil. Her story gives you the reality of the potential harshness of travel, but not for one second does she lead you to want to travel less or make you believe that she will. Read her words yourself and let me know what you think.
And speaking again of drooling (but this time over cute, not chocolate) just when I thought Sanrio brand had put Hello Kitty on everything possible, I found out Hello Kitty has her own planes and Taipei based airline EVA-Air is to thank. Check out the Huffington Post article here.
My last link is the most poignant to me and features a strong woman, I want to introduce you to my friend Ashlee Jennings. Ashlee is currently raising money for an internship program with Fundación Jatun Sacha in Ecuador. She will be living in the Amazon and helping with compost maintenance, seeds collection, soil preparation, tree nursery maintenance, trails maintenance, vegetable garden maintenance, workshops of handicrafts with Quechua community, reforestation projects, precipitation and temperature data collection, teaching English at nearby schools, and much more. She is trying to raise $9,000. Check out her info at gofundme.com and help if you feel inspired, even $1 brings her closer to her goal.
I’m always on the hunt for links that feature strong sexy women doing interesting things, for links that inspire, for links that induce laughter, for links that you might not have found otherwise. I’m looking for stuff that has to do with travel, food, shopping, non-profits, photography, art, parties, restaurants, writing, backpacking, do it yourself guides, and stories about women of all sorts. Feel free to pass anything forward to me at firstname.lastname@example.org or in the comments below. Thanks!
