Earn money while drinking coffee- Cafe Regatta
Welcome to Finland. The home country of thousands of lakes and small summer houses.
While you might enjoy your summer holiday traveling abroad, most Finns head out the the countryside when it’s time to relax and enjoy. Simple things like gardening, swimming, fishing and sauna are the things many locals appreciate and enjoy. There’s something magical about the quietness of the Finnish nature, especially in the summer when there’s light almost all day long.
If you are not lucky enough to be able to visit the countryside on your stay in Finland, I have a solution for you. It’s called Cafe Regatta.
In the central, and rather classy residential suburb of Helsinki called Töölö lies the small red wooden building made of lots of old frames and unusual things inside. A quick warning: once you take the first step inside, you will be a regular customer for the rest of your life.
The place has made its way to people’s hearts for years, regardless of gender or nationality. It’s also located only a few steps from the world-famous Sibelius monument, and is a great getaway spot from the town fuss at the gorgeous seaside of Helsinki.
The cozy, friendly and homelike environment invites people inside to smell the fresh cinnamon buns in the summer, and barbecue sausages in an open bonfire in the winter. You can purchase sausages inside of the cafe.
In the summer time people can rent a canoe or kayak and take a small little tour on the quiet and beautiful seaside. In winter, they can take a stroll on the thick ice.
Regatta also rents out the trendy and hilarious SUP boards for groups or individuals. The price is 15 euros per hour, including a short introduction.
“It was love at first sight. The location is incredible as it’s close to the sea and the atmosphere is unique. Imagine to see a small warm wooden house with incredible decorations in the middle of winter, in -20 degrees Celsius. A purely lovely place with super tasty cinnamon buns. ”
And now comes the best part.
The place accepts only cash, but if sightseeing drained your energy and you forgot to bring extra euros with you- they’ve got you covered. The friendly staff welcomes you to come back and pay everything the next time. Also, major coffee drinkers can actually earn money in this little and peaceful open-air-cafe. If you refill your cup of coffee, you will get 5 cents back.
This warm hearted, kind and generous place made it’s way to my heart years ago, and is always the first place where I head out in Finland. Be sure not to miss it.
The address is Merikannontie 10, 00260 Helsinki. Enjoy!
