Thailand

I’ve said it once, twice, thrice, too many times to count: Thailand is one of my all time favourite destinations in the world to backpack and travel in. I’m definitely not alone here though as Katja, Annika and Alex all share this love for the land of smiles and paradise beaches with me. It’s a place that when I think of it, it gives me a funny feeling in my …

Sawatdee ka! From my Instagram feed you can easily detect that I am in Thailand at the moment, which admittedly came a bit as a surprise to me. I never wanted to go to Thailand, ever. I thought it was for tourists, which of course I am not, I am a traveller. Big (snobby) difference! You hear the stories, you see the pictures: dirty, sleazy Bangkok, crowded, littered beaches, and …

Here at Travelettes, our love for Thailand is undying and forever more. Sorry to sound pretty gushy about that country, but it’s definitely a fav of ours. Sure, there’s Bangkok with Khao San Road and its never-ending bustling fun; sure, there’s the sandy partying of the southern islands; but how about some northern culture in the serene and stunning city of Chiang Mai?

The “Rose of the North” is Thailand’s fifth …

Think Thailand’s Koh Pha-Ngan is all about neon paint splattered gap year students throwing some shapes under the full moon and spacing out on shroom mountain? Well, hold your horses cowgirls, there’s more to this infamous Thai island than super-strength buckets and passing out on the sand at 6am. I love Koh Pha-Ngan long time. I’ve loved it since way back when I joined the ranks of starry-eyed youngsters mooning …

I’m pretty sure that every blogpost I ever wrote about Thailand and Bangkok in particular was essentially just one big lovefest. It’s true that the most popular of destinations in Asia is simply always guaranteed to provide a good time, pretty much regardless of weather, company or budget. It’s a bit like a disneyland for adults with fun people, amazing food, stimulating culture, great nightlife, incredible beaches – and trust …

So January, my dreary nemesis… we meet again. As the whirling backdrop of festive fun and social engagements fades into the distant glow of Christmas past, January strikes with early mornings, old routines and no more chocolate for breakfast. Boo. Perfect time then to skip the country, throw those boring, sensible New Year’s resolutions to the wind and turn to a way of life where every day’s a holiday. I’m …

I love Bangkok. It’s easily one of my favorite cities of all time and the type of place I love coming back to again and again. Bangkok was the first stop on my one year trip around the world back in 2005. Like any 23 year old backpacker I headed straight for Khao San Road, home of the budget traveler, haven for banana pancakes and $5 hotel rooms. The very …

Oh, how we Travelettes love Asia! The sun, the sea, the fashion, the people, the feeling of not knowing what the hell is going on at times and last but certainly not least, the glorious food!
One of the best food experiences of my life coincidentally took place on one my of my favorite Thai islands, Koh Pha Ngan. Smack bang in the main hub and port of the island, the …

When most people think about accommodation in Bangkok, they think about a backpackers on Khaosan Road. After all it was The Beach that put them on the map for most and which girl wouldn’t put up with thin walls and crummy sheets if it increases the chance of finding her personal Richard. However sometimes a girl just wants to feel like a princess, with or without the prince.
At least that’s …

The Urban Dictionary defines the term ‘Paradise’ as a version of heaven minus the clouds, harps, angels etc, but typically seen as an ideal place of beauty such as a massive lush garden with every known exotic plant, animal and bird. This seems to describe the little island of Koh Tao perfectly. However, take this idea of paradise and factor in a long list of fun things to do, see …
