Carry your house on your back

So you know we like tents and alternative accommodation here at Travelettes, we’re also fond of packing cheats and cool inventions so when I came across a product that combines all of these I got a bit excited (queue camping geek siren); introducing the Vessel; a reversible 3-in-1 jacket that converts not only into a backpack but also a tent!

Designed by Boston based creator Justin Gargasz the idea came about due to the human need to escape - “Individuals feel the need to escape interactions in their environment everyday. Whether it be interactions with excessive technology or other people, this psychological and physical need to get away is where I began my investigation. A physical as well as psychological escape is achieved when the user has the option to efficiently get away from inside of building and come back when ever they choose. I focused on expandable clothing for concept exploration.”

So how does it actually work? Turn it inside out if its cold and windy; one side of the lining is windproof. If it’s warm, the coat can be folded and strapped around your body as a backpack. Then, when it’s finally time to set up camp, you stretch out the interior lining, peg it out and you’re ready to sleep or just simply reflect in nature.

Turn it round, upside down or inside out, as cool as this invention is, lets just hope that when it comes to market they make it in a more exciting colour – pink with polkadots anyone?

I agree with Lorna, cool idea but it would be so much more fun in a more dynamic print, there are so many cool ones out there that dark blue seems so boring
