A Case of Unusual Timing in Warsaw
My last destination in Europe before I caught my flight back to the states was Warsaw, Poland. I was planning to stay in my friend’s flat, go out a few nights, stock up on some of my favorites Polish things, and relax into the idea that I was heading home. However, I arrived on the exact morning that the Polish president, his wife, and 94 others, many who were top officials in the government, military, and national bank, died in a plane crash in Russia. It was a shock to the people and a really interesting time to be in Poland’s capital city. Though many of my friends claimed Kaczynski was not such a popular president, crowds came out in full force to place signs of mourning and wait for the bodies to be repatriated around the presidential palace on Nowy Świat. Here are some photos I snapped on the day.
